#7: LATAM 2025 PART 3: Mate Tutorial, All-Nighters and Bird Watching
Aktie
It's been a few weeks but I think you'll all now agree I'm an incredible blogger. This third instalment from my travels around LATAM with Haken is really quite special. Just having the opportunity for a morning off to explore the beautiful coastal ecological reserve with Pete was enough to be highlight of the trip for me. But then meeting some new Argentinian fans later in the day for a little cultural experience in the city centre pretty quickly topped it.
Not gonna lie, the venue for the show in Buenos Aires was terrible and I hope we never play there again. The venue staff decided to poison the band and crew, which was unforgivable and ruined the rest of the tour for everyone except for myself and our TM, who somehow avoided it. And the venue itself seemed incapable of catering for any kind of tech-spec beyond one vocal mic and a guitar. Really unacceptable - we did almost have to pull the show.
Thankfully, our amazing Argentinian fans turned the whole situation on its head and made our short time in the country more than worth all that pain! Thank you for all of your love and support. Next time, I wanna see that trademark Argentine pit again though!
And as for Montevideo - maybe my new fave LATAM city? What a place! Let's try make it a regular stop on future Haken tours so that we can start building that wonderful audience. To all those who came to our first show in Uruguay, thank you! Even some travelling from Brazil and further afield - we appreciate it. Special mention to the guy who brought me some more Yerba! As if I wasn't already gifted enough of the stuff in Buenos Aires.
I hope you enjoy this part of the trip and I'll try get the final video out soon. And thanks to everyone for subscribing and getting involved in my little competition. Winner has now been chosen and will be informed imminently!
All the very best

Agree, you are the best prog drummer blogger in Latin America I have ever followed. Not gonna lie, I thought Mate Tutorial was gonna be something completely different. Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant.
I went on tour with a friend’s band two years ago, we did seven countries in South America in fifteen days, it was exhausting. Their drummer ( Gio) struggled to breath in Bolivia, because of the altitude, luckily, they had oxygen on hand and he got through the show .The altitude got to us all at some point .
It good to get to do a bit of sight seeing, otherwise it’s just hotels and airports .
